GODOLPHIN HOSTS ROTARY YOUNG MUSICIANS

Godolphin School was the venue for the District Round of the Wessex Rotary Rotary Young Musicians Competition, organised by Salisbury Rotary Club.

Four vocalists and six instrumentalists from around the Wessex region performed for thirteen minutes each in front of an audience and the two judges, Kate Edgar and Graham Coatman.

With only the winner of each category going through to the Rotary Cluster Round Final to be held on Sunday 7 April in Redhill, Surrey, the judges debated long and hard before delivering their decision:

Vocalists

1st	Ellie Crain Bournemouth
2nd	Gianpiero Greatorex Bishop Wordsworths

Instrumentalists

1st	Emme Hensel Flute Bournemouth
2nd	Elara Jacobs Tenor Horn South Wilts Grammar

Emme Hemsel was also judged to be the overall Wessex District Young Musician of the Year.

Congratulations to all for some fantastic performances, with Ellie and Emme progressing to the next stage in Redhill.
The Young Musicians Competition is open to all young people between the ages of 12 and 16 years. They may be individual, or from a group such as schools, or any young people’s organisation. It is for amateur musicians and is not open to full time students of music or the performing arts.

Salisbury Rotary Club is very grateful to Godolphin School for hosting Young Musicians and to William Ings (Director of Music) and the backstage team from the Godolphin Music Department, and to Dan Jones for being the accompanist for the day.

And, of course to our two judges, Kate Edgar and Graham Coatman, and to all the students who took part, and to Rotarian Alan Corkill for organising the event.
